Manresa School Junior High School Department holds successful Research Colloquium

In pursuit of academic excellence and continuous professional development, the Junior High School (JHS) Department of Manresa School successfully held its Research Colloquium last June 19, 2026. The event served as a vibrant platform for faculty members to present their latest action researches, reflecting the school’s deep commitment to data-driven instruction and innovative teaching methodologies.

Three core subject areas took center stage to present their findings, each led by dedicated subject teachers who investigated practical solutions to contemporary classroom challenges, innovative strategies tailored to address contemporary learning needs within their respective disciplines.

• The English Area explored on the impact of engagement star on oral participation of students. “The Impact of “Engagement Stars” on Oral Participation of Students in Post-Pandemic English Classrooms”

• The Mathematics Area focused on the effectiveness of Mathematics reinforcement program. “Effectiveness of the Mathematics Reinforcement Program: Student Perceptions and Learning Outcomes for School Year 2024-2025”

• The Araling Panlipunan Area delved into students’ critical thinking skills through Balitaan. “Kwento, Kwenta, Kuro: Examining the Development of Students’ Critical Thinking through Balitaan Journals”

The presentations were rigorously evaluated by distinguished panel members, who provided valuable insights, constructive critiques, and commendations for the presenters' hard work. The esteemed panel included: Ms. Mary Knoll Austria, Senior High School English Coordinator and Research Teacher, Mr. John Ashley Jorda, Learning Resource Center (LRC) Coordinator, Mr. Ian Gabriel Rosales, Science Teacher and Sr. Gemma Doguiles, FI, Pastoral Ministry Coordinator.

Following a thorough deliberation by the panel, the Araling Panlipunan Area was awarded the Best Research distinction. The research of Araling Panlipunan Area delved deeply into sharpening students' critical thinking skills by utilizing Balitaan (news sharing) journals. By structuring how students interact with current events, the researchers successfully demonstrated how structured news analysis can elevate a student's ability to discern, analyze, and form sound judgments on societal issues.
