Celebrating the Feast of the Nativity of Mary at El Rosarillo Chapel

On this blessed day, the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, those who were onsite gathered in the chapel to offer prayers and reflections on the profound love and devotion that Mother Candida demonstrated for Mary, the special connection St. Ignatius had with Mary, particularly at Montserrat, and how both of their lives serve as an inspiration for us all. Today, we unite in honoring these spiritual giants who gave themselves entirely to God, just as Mary did.
Mother Candida's Love for Mary:  Mother Candida, the foundress of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus, was known for her deep faith and unwavering devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her relationship with Mary, even from childhood, served as a source of strength and guidance throughout her life. Like Mary, Mother Candida embraced God's plan for her with humility and love. She founded her institute to educate and care for the marginalized, embodying the selflessness and dedication that Mary displayed when she said "yes" to God's plan.
St. Ignatius' Love for Mary: St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, also had a profound love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. His encounter with Mary at the Montserrat shrine in Spain was a pivotal moment in his spiritual journey. It was at Montserrat that he laid down his sword and dedicated himself to the service of God. This act of surrender mirrored Mary's own "fiat" when she accepted the role of being the Mother of Jesus.
Also, the story of St. Ignatius' encounter with the cannonball is often cited as an example of God's ability to bring about profound spiritual transformation through the unexpected. and even painful circumstances. It serves as an inspiration for how one person's journey from worldly pursuits to deep spirituality can have a lasting impact on the world.
On this special day of Mother Mary's birthday, let us remember the profound love and devotion that Mary, Mother Candida, and St. Ignatius had for God. May their examples inspire us to live lives of selflessness, trust, and unwavering faith in God's plan for us, lives totally for God alone and for others. Amen
